Even if so, the limit should be documented (but I would not bet on that) plus unlikely to be the same for both TVs. I would not expect a limit on the accessible number of folders allowed to the TV's. For a plex sever, the shield tv is one of the most electric efficient options, just 3watts at idle. Nothing works until you reboot the shield TV. So when the shield tv boots up and doesn't see the NAS folders. The NAS boots up way slower than a shield tv. The only problem I've found with this is when you have a power outage.

Plex will transcode whenever it needs to. You can attach this to one tv, and use the plex app on another tv. What's great about this, is that it can also be used as a plex server with free hardware transcoding(no need for plex pass). Nvidia Shield TV(must be larger box version, not the stick version) with PLEX APP, can be purchased used. Infuse has the best user interface IMO and plays everything I throw at it.ģ. This is my favorite solution, though pricey, you can buy apple tv4 and 4k units used for around $100. APPLE TV 4 or newer(must have app store) and the INFUSE APP( ). I don't like the UI of Kodi, but it's a good solution that works very well to play anything.Ģ.

Budget solution is to use a raspberry pi or android box that can run the KODI program.
#PLEX NOT SEEING NEW FILES UPGRADE#
It's not dependent on DLNA cataloging files.ĭLNA is terrible, I would upgrade to a better client solution that can view and catalog the files themselves over SMB or FTP protocols.ġ. On your laptop, you're browsing via SMB protocol, so it'll show everything on your NAS. Some clients are limited by how many folders they can view, like 200 on some clients.

#PLEX NOT SEEING NEW FILES SOFTWARE#
The list of files and folders the TV sees is dependent on the DLNA server software on your NAS and what's it's cataloged as available files and entered them into it's database.

Then it serves it up over your network which your tv can pick up. It requires server software on your NAS, that organizes and creates a database of files on your NAS. The TV's are likely using DLNA to view files. if anyone could help it would be very much appreciated. I've kind of run out of ideas and haven't found a solution anywhere. The other odd thing, is when I access the NAS drive with my laptop, I can see the new folders and contents with no problems. The fact that newly created folders are not showing up on either of my smart tv's seems to me it must be a streaming setting or maybe a router problem? I've followed advice on various sites to :ġ- refresh tv by unplugging and leaving unplugged for 5 minutes to refresh directory (didn't work)Ģ- unplug (power off drive and power up) didn't workģ- unplug router and re-power. When I create a new folder on either of the NAS drives, it doesn't show up on either of my smart televisions. I've had no trouble for years watching movies or videos on either of these tv's, but very recently I've run into a problem. I have a Panasonic Viera in my living room and a LG in my bedroom. I use these 2 drives to watch content on either of my smart Televisions. I have 2 NAS drives, a Lacie Cloudbox and a WD My Cloud. I'm new here, so I'm hoping this question hasn't been asked before.
